What does volume tell you?
How much is actually trading behind a price move, and why a move on strong volume carries more weight.
Volume is the amount of an asset traded over a period. It measures participation: how many buyers and sellers are actually behind a price move.
Volume confirms moves
A price move on high volume reflects broad conviction and tends to be more durable. The same move on thin volume is easier to reverse.
Spikes mark turning points
A sudden volume spike often marks a moment of decision, a breakout, a capitulation, or a reversal, as many participants act at once.
