Vietnam stocks · Chapter 26 of 31

Vietnam trading hours and session types

The structure of a trading day, from the opening auction (ATO) through the lunch break to the closing auction (ATC).

The Vietnamese market trades on a fixed daily schedule with a distinctive midday break. Understanding the sessions helps you know when and how your orders can match.

Opening and closing auctions

The day opens with a periodic auction called the ATO (about 9:00 to 9:15) that sets the opening price, and closes with the ATC (about 14:30 to 14:45) that sets the closing price. In these windows, orders are gathered and matched at a single price.

Continuous trading and the lunch break

Between the auctions, continuous matching runs in the morning and again in the afternoon. Trading pauses over lunch, roughly 11:30 to 13:00, which is unusual next to crypto's non-stop market.

Why it matters

Order types behave differently in auction versus continuous sessions, and the ATO and ATC prices are widely watched as the day's open and close. Exact hours vary by board and change over time, so check the exchange's current schedule.
